HOPE for a CURE

The cause of ALS is still unknown and there is no cure.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.

On April 29, 2010 my sister-in-law Helen was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease/A.L.S.

On December 12, 2013 Helen's life was taken away from us way

too early.

In the meadow we can build...

Fiona measurement’s 14 inches from

the top of her nest hat to feet.

And 12 inches without nest hat.

Her body and head are made of painted osnaburg,

and her legs are made of pink stripe fabric.
She has painted shoes.

Fiona’s dress is made of wool and polka dot fabric

and accented with silver tinsel hand stitched

around neckline and hem.
The dress has a bow with pearl.

Her pantaloons are polka dot fabric.

Her facial features are:
blue glass eyes with my signature stitched eye lids.
Black floss stitched mouth.
Wool nose, and dusting of blush.

Fiona’s nest hat is made of artificial evergreen accented with bottle brush trees and a bird.
Nest and trees are dusted with mica.

Hat is tied to her head with ribbon and a hat pin.
Fiona’s hat nest can be removed.
